Reaching the Workplace for Jesus by 2020 (with Ford Taylor)
I mentioned a few episodes back that there is an initiative underway here in the United States to pray for, care for, and share the Gospel with every person in the workplace by the year 2020. That’s somewhere around 156,000,000 people… co-workers, clients, bosses, etc.
There’s a lot of history leading up to this, so I’ll just give you a quick overview.
The origins of this initiative can be traced back to Dr. Billy Graham who back in 1974 led the formation of a coalition to “unite all evangelicals in the common task of the total evangelization of the world.” This coalition was named the Lausanne Congress and is now known as the Lausanne Movement.
The branch of this movement focused on reaching the United States is named Mission America. By “reaching,” I mean praying for, caring for, and sharing the gospel with each person in the United States.
Around five years ago, the steering committee of the Mission America Coalition identified 40 specific spheres of influence throughout the culture and cast a vision to reach everyone within these spheres by the year 2020. This initiative of Mission America was named Love2020.
The spheres of influence that are being targeted include education, people with disabilities, law, etc. The largest sphere identified was the workplace sphere.
A leader has been appointed to lead the steering committee for each of these spheres, and the leader appointed to the workplace sphere is Ford Taylor, who was interviewed about “A Biblical Model of Business Leadership” back in Episode 2 of the Theology of Business Podcast. I also featured Ford in my new book The Marketplace Christian: A Practical Guide to Using Your Spiritual Gifts in Business for how he uses his spiritual gift of leadership for the glory of God in the business world.
I’ve been working with Ford and this team for the past year, and on this episode you’re going to hear Ford share the vision for praying for, caring for, and sharing the gospel with 156,000,000 people in the U.S. workplace by the year 2020. This is Ford’s presentation from the Love2020 conference that I participated in in Long Beach California last month.
As I heard Ford speak at this conference, I knew instantly that you the Theology of Business community needed to hear this. If you’re moved by what Ford is about to share with you and you want to join us, I encourage you to reach out to me by commenting below.
